Use paypal to pay your citizens association dues

Nov 13th, 2009 by rebecca

The Warwick Village Citizens Association has added a paypal option to their membership page, so now you don’t have any excuse to forget to pay your dues. The website has been spiffied up as well, so go check it out if you live in the Village. And pay your dues while you’re there….

The Del Ray Citizens Association has a paypal option as well. I don’t see a paypal option on the Lynhaven Citizens Association site, but they do seem to have lots of helpful info for the community. The Rosemont Citizens Association website is down, and has been for a long time. The Rosemont listserv is very active, I’m surprised the web presence is still awol. I also know what a pain in the neck it is for neighborhood associations to plan websites by committee, so I’m not criticizing, just commenting. (Really!)

The Bellefonte Wizards

Nov 9th, 2009 by rebecca

The LesDunBelle Blog, which reports on the doings in the corner of the neighborhood comprised of Leslie, Duncan and Bellefonte Avenues, has a post up about our local Special Olympics basketball champs, the Bellefonte Wizards. The Wizards have set their sites on national competition and they need the Del Ray community to participate in their bake sale fundraiser this weekend at the farmer’s market.

You’ve got to hop on over to the LesDunBelle Blog and read the Bellefonte Wizards story.

The post also tells you how you can help out, especially by baking for the sale, buying tasty treats at the bake sale (my speciality), or donating money.

Halloween costume collection

Nov 3rd, 2009 by rebecca

Gayle, Carol and Pat sent out this friendly reminder to anyone packing away Halloween costumes or considering a run to Goodwill:

Just a friendly reminder, before you pack those Halloween costumes that likely won’t fit next year, you can drop them off at either A Show of Hands at 2301 Mt. Vernon Avenue or Caboose at 2419 Mt. Vernon Avenue and they will be distributed next year to children in need. We want to make sure no child is left out of marching in the 14th Annual Del Ray Halloween Parade because they don’t have a costume. Especially needed are larger sizes.

Their system for redistributing these costumes to kids in need is mighty impressive and your donation will be greatly appreciated.

I only know that it’s November 4th at 6:00 p.m. at the Mt Vernon rec center and will include a talk by the artist. Drop me a line or leave a comment if you have more information.

Del Ray Greens Mural Contest

Oct 22nd, 2009 by rebecca

Del Ray Greens, which will be located at the corner of Mt Vernon Avenue and Hume, is holding a mural design contest. The contest is open to students in Alexandria Schools and a pdf with all of the contest details can be downloaded here. The contest deadline is January 15, 2010.

Del Ray Greens is being touted as Del Ray’s first privately-owned LEED certified green building and promises to have an organic farm on the roof! This should be an exciting project to watch.
