If you’re like the Husband and I, not all of your appliances are brand new. Shopping for new ones is a huge headache, but the Alexandria Public Library just made things a little easier (and easier on your wallet).
According to Librarian Marilyn Doherty, who works tirelessly to keep the neighborhood informed of news at our beloved Duncan Library, we can now access Consumer Reports online via the Library website. Here are the instructions:
Go to the Alexandria Library Website: http://alexandria.lib.va.us/.
Click on “E Journal A-Z List”, which is located mid-way down the left-hand column of the page.
Type in “consumer reports” (you don’t need the quotation marks) in the box at the top that says, “title begins with.” The first link is for the monthly publication and clicking on the link that says “general one file” will take you to the magazine. This isn’t as confusing as it sounds, try it!
I just did a search on refrigerators and learned that many recent french-door models with ice and water dispensers in the doors have had their Energy Star rating revoked because they use a lot more energy than the manufacturers claimed. I’d write more but you should just check out this valuable new resource - and the hundreds of others available already at the e-journals link - for yourself. Plus, I’m finally on the trail of a new refrigerator and I’ve got research to do!
