Halloween costume collection

Nov 3rd, 2009 by rebecca

Gayle, Carol and Pat sent out this friendly reminder to anyone packing away Halloween costumes or considering a run to Goodwill:

Just a friendly reminder, before you pack those Halloween costumes that likely won’t fit next year, you can drop them off at either A Show of Hands at 2301 Mt. Vernon Avenue or Caboose at 2419 Mt. Vernon Avenue and they will be distributed next year to children in need. We want to make sure no child is left out of marching in the 14th Annual Del Ray Halloween Parade because they don’t have a costume. Especially needed are larger sizes.

Their system for redistributing these costumes to kids in need is mighty impressive and your donation will be greatly appreciated.

Halloween Round-up

Watch out for little trick-or-treaters on Friday night, the smaller ones will be out around the same time you’re arriving home. A few of us made a best-guess on when the festivities would commence in the neighborhood and we’re figuring that the large number of 3-8 year olds will be mean an early start - probably around 5:30. Drive slowly and watch out for little folks darting into the road!

Neither Warwick Village nor Del Ray have Homeowners Associations so there’s no official end-time for trick-or-treating. Our guess is: trick or treat end-time will be whenever you run out of candy, shut off the lights and hide in your basement.

The Warwick Village Parent’s Group is sponsoring a party from 4-6 at the Landover Pool House. This is presumably for younger kids, I unfortunately didn’t get any additional info.

Sunday’s Del Ray Halloween Parade was a smashing success. I posted my flickr set of photos from the festivities, send me your links if you have more you’d like to share.
